  1. Apply via the sponsorship link.

  2. If successful, join an introductory call to agree on the sponsored cell.

  3. Provide licensing details, logo, team picture, and create a Voltt account.

  4. Access the cell model and learning materials for at least one season.

  5. When sponsorship ends, contact us for a new license or cell model.

How does the sponsorship work?

Our current sponsored teams

About:Energy is sponsoring over 30 teams from 9 countries.

Here are a few of our successfully sponsored teams:

  • Building physical prototypes is often costly and time-consuming for student teams, making simulations a vital tool for understanding systems, exploring designs, and iterating digitally. However, accessing accurate battery cell models remains a major barrier, requiring technical expertise and expensive equipment.

This is where About:Energy steps in to provide an easy-to-use battery cell model. The “white-box” nature of the model allows students to “peak under the hood” and understand how the cell model works. But crucially, the students can now focus on building module and pack level simulations. This is where students need to apply their engineering knowledge and judgement to achieve the most accurate module/pack-level simulation.

  • About:Energy will typically provide a MATLAB Simulink-based equivalent circuit cell model for a cell that was agreed on together with the recipient of the sponsorship.

We will make sure that the cell model works for you and will help with any licensing issues. However, we cannot help you design your battery pack / provide engineering insight. This would remove the competition and go against the learn-by-doing philosophy of our sponsorship.

  • We are primarily interested in checking whether the potential recipient of the sponsorship will be able to make good use of the provided tools (Eg. Sufficient team members and level of engineering maturity in the team). Overall we would like to provide the same tools to as many teams as possible, in line with our sponsorship philosophy to help with educating as many talented engineers as possible.

  • We sponsor for all student engineering competitions that are cantered around students designing, building, and competing with a vehicle.

  • About:Energy tends to ask for the following in return:

    • Support in the creation of marketing content (LinkedIn posts, case studies, etc)

    • Presence of the About:Energy logo on the team’s vehicle and website (if website exists)

    • Providing feedback on the modelling tools

  • Only a Terms and Conditions document needs to be signed. This document outlines where/how the sponsorship can be used. About:Energy will terminate existing sponsorships and any future sponsorships if these Terms and Conditions are not followed.

  • Yes, this is possible. This requires notifying About:Energy and written agreement to the following additional Terms:

    • The final thesis needs to be shared with About:Energy

    • The model architecture cannot be published in your thesis

    • The model parameters cannot be published in your thesis

    • The thesis cannot contain HPPC simulation outputs.

    • About:Energy has to be mentioned as the provider of the model in your thesis
